Department: Cancer Program
Schedule: Regular Full-time Shift: Day Shift Hours: - Certification Preferred - Experience is required - Recent experience in the specialty area is required The Cancer Data Compliance Specialist contributes to the success of the cancer program and approval process by performing cancer registry and companion database operations for compliant reporting to regulatory agencies, standard setting organizations and Mercy's cancer program leadership. Performance involves adherence to documented federal and state cancer reporting laws, Commission on Cancer standards in effect for a data collection period and directives from the Senior Cancer Data Compliance Specialist. Typical duties involve structured and reference based data collection of a patient's cancer experience and ongoing case surveillance. Skills / Requirements
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree in health information management or a related field or commensurate with years of experience. Must possess five (5) recent and consecutive years experience as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) in a Commission on Cancer approved cancer program or experience in health information management involving reimbursement coding, quality improvement or a related role. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with staff (at all levels) internally and externally to establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships. Ability to interpret abstract concepts or requests to develop appropriate interactions and conclusions. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated proficiency with standard query operators to perform complex data extractions from MRS or other electronic databases. Demonstrated ability to set and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment with quality results. Ability to use all major industry reference materials (FORDS, SEER 2000, AJCC 6th edition, AJCC Collaborative Staging all editions, ICD-9-CM, ICD-O-3, NCI's PDQ and NAACCR standards concurrently with data collection. Working knowledge of contemporary health care delivery systems and databases to maintain viable contacts for optimal case surveillance. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred. Must obtain the Certified Tumor Registrar credentials within 2 years of employment. We Value Diversity!
