AAI is currently looking for systems engineers to serve as project engineers and lead systems engineers on a variety of programs focused on upgrading the Army-s Shadow Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV). The Shadow is a valued military asset and currently averages 10,000 flight hours a month, providing continual air surveillance in combat conditions. Existing programs include: upgrading the data links, payloads, propulsion system and avionics. As expert practitioner of systems engineering for AAI-s Unmanned Aircraft Systems business group, applicant will be responsible for lead systems engineering duties and/or project engineering on a variety of new programs that are aimed at adding new capabilities to the Shadow system. As a lead systems engineer, the applicant will be responsible for the requirements management from performance level down to allocating derived requirements to the various system components. Other duties may include subcontractor technical management, customer interface, and system test support. As a project engineer, applicant will also be responsible for technical co-ordination of all engineering groups assigned to a program, cost and schedule management, and personnel supervision. Applicant should be familiar with requirements management tools, EVMS (Earned Value Management Systems), and processes used in the test and qualification of military aircraft systems.

Skills / Requirements

Demonstrated skills include: effective written and oral communications, working in groups, effectively direct others, conduct functional analysis, develop system design descriptions, define concept of operations, and lead medium size (5-10) groups, develop systems design solutions, define system and subsystem architectures, create and maintain interface specifications, develop performance specifications, write subcontractor statements of work and develop junior staff. Has some proficiency using MS Office, Visio, DOORS and MS project or equivalent. Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.


Required Experience
Bachelors Degree from an accredited school in Engineering, Physics or degree related discipline. Graduate degree from an accredited school in engineering management preferred.

Three to five years of project technical leadership for engineering development of computer controlled electro-mechanical systems.

Familiar with technologies, integration and test of complex systems. Experienced with systems engineering principles and tools for defining and controlling complex developments. Demonstrated performance involving the creation of project plans, work authorization documents and earned value management principles.
