About APTA of Maryland, Inc. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is a national professional organization representing more than 66,000 members. Its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education. THE APTA MISSION STATEMENT: The APTA of Maryland, Inc. is committed to the promotion, delivery, enhancement, and preservation of physical therapy by addressing the needs and interests of its members in areas of practice, reimbursement, education, and research. Vision Statement Physical therapists will be recognized as the sole providers of physical therapy. Physical therapists will be recognized by consumers and all healthcare professionals as the practitioners of choice to whom consumers have direct access for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to movement, function, and health. Physical therapists will hold all privileges of autonomous practice andwill be acknowledged as leaders in their role to promote health and wellness for citizens of Maryland. Physical therapists may be assisted by physical therapist assistants who are licensed and educated to provide physical therapist directed and supervised components of interventions. Guided by integrity, life-long learning, and a commitment to comprehensive and accessible health programs for all people, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will render evidence-based services throughout the continuum of care and improve quality of life for society.
