Jobing Description
Assists in the care and education of severely emotionally hadicapped children, ages 6-14 within the Residential Treatment facility and within school system. Within the residence, assists in supervising and helping children during break weeks, holidays and snow days.

Responsible for setting up the class, copying and preparing materials for the day, and for dismissing children in the afternoon

Supports Teachers with paperwork responsibilities (i.e. report cards, IEP development, progress notes and all bulletin boards)

Assists Teachers in the classroom by helping with the implementation of class lesson plans and providing individual or small-group instruction as directed to ensure curriculum goals are met. Assists in routine administrative tasks, copying, collating, filing etc...

Assists in residential care during breaks, holidays and snow days by supervising and directing children in before school tasks including wake-up, personal hygiene, breakfast, and preparing for the school day to begin.

Escorts children within and between buildings and to and from various appointments to ensure adequate supervision of children at all times. Includes driving children to appointments, field trips, etc...

Monitors children's behavior and maintains Behavior Management documentation by completing goal sheets in prescribed time limits, calculating daily behavior management levels, monthly goal percentages, and completing behavior logs to ensure that all children are treated fairly and that the Behavior Management System is implemented.

Contacts Teachers, Parents, Therapists and Counselors to effectively communicate information regarding children's progress or problems in the classroom

Performs related duties including, but not limited to assisting in decoration of classrooms, changing bulletin boards etc... to maintain a pleasant and educationally stimulating environment. Attends quarterly department meetings, team meetings as requested, may serve on committees for specific activities or events.




Skills / Requirements
Requires effective childcare skills including nurturing, patience, consistency, and the ability to apply effective discipline and behavior management techniques. Requires the capacity to relate to severely emotionally disabled children in a sensitive, understanding and insightful manner. Requires effective oral and written communication skills in communication skills in contact with Teachers, Therapists, and Parents.

Important Notes
AA Degree plus 2 years experience working with children with special needs.

Must possess a current driver's license with three (3) or less points.
