Composites Lab Technician (3rd Shift) (6380)

To process a wide variety of materials into composite parts and assemblies for prototype development and production. Job duties include:

* Prepares tools, mandrels, and fixtures for lay-up.

* Fabricates materials into composite parts and assemblies using pre-preg and wet lay-up techniques and various required materials.

* Performs bonding operations using weight and mix procedures for resins and adhesives.

* Programs computer controlled ovens, hot presses and autoclaves to properly cure composites.

* Performs material sizing and ply design layout of composite parts and bond assemblies.

* Tests and maintains vacuum valves and hoses for autoclave processes.

* Prepares surfaces for finish using body filling and sanding techniques.

* Maintains records on materials and processes during production.

* Performs operation verification, final verification, and controls shelf life inventory.

* Records and maintains inventory of general supplies required to support composite operation.

* Assists in the design of special tooling, manufacturing procedures and special tooling requirements.

* Maintains good housekeeping and safety standards.


Skills / Requirements

* Knowledge of composite and related materials characteristics, processes and equipment.

* Shop math.

* Military and commercial quality specifications.

* Manufacturing policies and procedures.

* Finger and manual dexterity.

* Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, procedures and engineering drawings/specifications.

* Ability to use precision measuring instruments.

* Ability to program process related computer controlled equipment.

* Ability to work well with others.


This position will be exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual requirements is the minimum standard for those whose work deals largely with visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, computer terminal, and using measuring devices.

* This position is subject to noise.

* This position is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

* This position is subject to a variety of physical and atmospheric conditions: This position would require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.

* This position is subject to solvents and chemicals.

* This position may require the use of a respirator if the employee performs sanding operations; the employee will be required to wear a respirator.


Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.


Required Experience
Typically requires 2 years experience with a high school diploma, or equivalent education or experience to demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the job duties.
