Jobing Description
Summary: Teaches in a Level V educational setting, serving children with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities, often accompanied by learning disabilities. Within assigned grade level and/or content area, the Psychoeducator is responsible for developing and implementing plans for meeting the educational needs of students and for improving psychosocial development.
Core Responsibilitiessibilities: Respects children and family rights by recognizing the dignity of each individual, encouraging their participation in problem solving and decision-making and maintaining the confidentiality of all client information. Maintains the environment of care by complying with therapeutic standards, risk management policy, and procedures for maintaining client safety. Contributes to Performance Improvement at the individual, department, and agency levels. Accurately Applies knowledge of treatment approaches appropriate to the physical and developmental age of clients served. Understands and applies policies and procedures for infection control. Attends all required training and in-service courses (CPR, Crisis Intervention, Emergency Procedures, Infection Control, etc). Principal responsibilitiessibilities: Develops and implements lesson plans to meet established curriculum guidelines and individual student needs. Documents student progress including grading papers, workbooks, class participation, homework, etc. and maintains files related to student work as necessary. Incorporates an "affective curriculum" by introducing activities to develop social awareness. Establishes behavioral limits and maintains order within the classroom to endure safety of all children and to promote an effective learning environment. Provides crisis intervention including recognizing and deescalating problem situations by separating children involved and/or talking to children to assess nature of problem and provide resolution, initiating time-out when necessary, and initiating therapeutic holds when necessary to ensure the safety of all children. Documents all incidents reports and passive restraint forms. Participates with administrators, parents, and counselors in developing individual educational plans for students to establish goals for educational development and behavior management. Monitors and documents student progress. Maintains all related documentation. Performs related duties as assigned, including but not limited to: monitors children in various non-classroom activities as assigned (i.e. bus monitor, homeroom monitor, etc). Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: This is a 12 month positions. Requires ability to walk and stand up to 85% of the time. Requires Physical ability to intervene and restrain children in crisis situations including the ability to run, lift and transport children to another location. Requires the physical ability to respond to physically demanding situations. Important Notes
Provisional Psychoeducator/ Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field, in pursuit of certification in Special Education by Maryland State Department of Education.
