Northrop Grumman Technology Services is seeking a Technical Writer 3/4 who will support several projects a large federal agency.  These positions will be located in Woodlawn, MD.
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Health Systems Management operating unit, which focuses on Healthcare IT solutions for our Federal, State, and Local government clients. The qualified candidate should also have strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills with a keen attention to detail.

Description of Work:

  • Write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences
  • Acquire subject knowledge by meeting and collaborating with product developers, observing the performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals
  • Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts
  • Conduct quality review of materials
  • Create Programs of Instruction, Student Guides, Instructor Guides, Quick Reference Guides, Pocket Guides, Test Packages, Online Help, etc 
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below. This requisition may be filled at either a Level 3 or a Level 4.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for a Technical Writer 3:

Minimum knowledge, skills, abilities needed.
  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of relative experience, Master's degree and 4 years of relative experience, or 10 years of relative experience in an IT field in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 1 year experience reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in writing in XML
  • Minimum 1 year experience using MS Office Suite
  • Must be US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Basic Qualifications for a Technical Writer 4:

Minimum knowledge, skills, abilities needed.
  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of relative experience, Master's degree and 8 years of relative experience, or 14 years of relative experience in an IT field in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 2 years experience reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in writing in XML
  • Minimum 2 years experience using MS Office Suite
  • Must be US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these skills will be given preferential consideration.
  • Experience writing in XML/S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications/IETM/Data Module writing (Arbortext or Framemaker)
  • Full knowledge of industry practices. Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform fairly complex professional tasks.
